Protecting the value of vaccination during -and after-the COVID-19 pandemic across Europe: impact, experiences and perspectives from citizens’ and patients’ advocacy groups & relevant stakeholders
Active Citizenship Network (ACN), after the commitment on VaccinAction2021, it's launching its #VaccinAction2022, focused on supporting the need for strengthening adult vaccination in Europe and – starting from the citizens’ and healthcare stakeholders’ perspective - understanding the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and vaccination campaigns on the national immunization plans, protecting the value of the adult immunization and its gains.
Our work on improving vaccination rates follow the Commission’s health priorities stated in the EU4Health 2021-2027 (as well as the fight against cancer and reducing the number of antimicrobial-resistant infections).
Our commitment, as a European network, is to engage citizens and citizens’ associations across Europe to better know and implement vaccination policies. We believe it is even more important, in this historical moment, to work to build a proper vaccine culture in particular to overcome the idea that vaccination is only needed at early ages, and to shift to a life-course vaccination approach and to a harmonized “for-life calendar” at the EU level. The adult immunization schedule has to be known, valued, spread and used in the interests of individuals and the community improving the collaboration and dialogue with all the health-relevant stakeholders and institutions, enhancing a more effective engagement of the civil society.
2022 Planned Activities focused on the adult vaccination
EU TRAINING SEMINAR
“Adult Vaccination: build the capacity and capabilities of civil society” READ THE AGENDA and Watch the recording of the event here
29April 2022 - 14:30/16:00 CEST
It will focus on supporting the need to strengthen adult vaccination in Europe by providing concrete examples. It will consist of a 2-hour training seminar which will be realized during the “European Immunization Week 2022”, open to leaders of civic and patient associations from different countries in order to respond to the need to be more updated and prepared to support and protect the value, in particular, of adult immunization and its related benefits to better identify, recognize and address the growing external factors that can negatively influence policy on vaccines in EU Member States and beyond, and improving the know-how on them.
EU WEBINAR: "Towards the next Council conclusions: which role of adult vaccination?" 7 July 2022 (14.30 to 16.00 CEST)
As a follow up to the Annual Meeting of the Coalition for Vaccination, and at the beginning of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union (1 July – 31 December 2022), the initiative will allow discussion of the EU Institutions' commitment to Adult Vaccination. What weight will the topic of vaccinations have in the Council Conclusions scheduled for December? How the different health stakeholders (civil society, patients, health professionals, experts, and institutions) can work together on this, and in particular what role adult vaccinations will play in the Conclusions?
Eu Social media campaign on the value of adult immunization
A raising-awareness communication campaign co-created with the direct involvement of associations and experts, most of them already engaged in the previous initiatives above described.
European INSTITUTIONAL event:
Hosted by the MEPs Interest Group “European Patients' Rights and Cross-border Healthcare”, if possible in presence at the EU Parliament in Brussels, to celebrate the 2022 EU Vaccination Day (December 2022, 2 years after the first Covid-19 Vaccination day). A multi-stakeholder event (civil society, patients, experts, institutions) with the aim to be a reflection moment, a confrontation between the involved stakeholders to understand if there are common aspects observed, good and bad practices, find proposals.
To be published in a peer review international journal, starting from ones that have hosted our activities so far (read more here).
